STUDENT HELPER NEEDED

WHO WE ARE
Our research focusses on neutrophil function in health and disease. Neutrophils are the first cells recruited to sites of inflammation and are crucial for the removal of dead cells and to combat pathogens. Neutrophils mediate important physiological processes, such as angiogenesis and wound healing, and also pathological processes such as tumor growth. Neutropenia or dysfunctional neutrophils can lead to the inability to clear bacterial and fungal infections. In contrast, hyperactive neutrophils can cause severe tissue damage as seen in patients with rheumatoid arthritis or COVID-19. We are interested in the molecular mechanisms regulating neutrophil maturation, recruitment and defense functions. To decipher these mechanisms, we use in vitro and in vivo models such as cell lines, zebrafish larvae and mice. Our methods range from molecular biological techniques (cloning, transfection, PCR), biochemical methods (immunofluorescence, Western Blot) to state-of-the-art imaging techniques (live-cell imaging, spinning-disk confocal microscopy, STED). Our lab is located at the BMC in Planegg-Martinsried and is part of the Institute of Cardiovascular Physiology and Pathophysiolgy of the LMU Munich. Further information can be found at

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for a curios and motivated student in natural sciences, human medicine or similar. Depending on previous experience, the student can support us in routine techniques such as PCR and Western Blot. After initial training, the student can also elucidate smaller projects with more responsibility.

WHAT WE OFFER
We can offer an appointment at the earliest possible date until 9/2024 and aim for approximately 7 working hours/week. Working hours and contract length will be set individually with regard to the students’ needs. We offer insight into a research lab in a scientifically highly competitive field.
